What makes a professional in water damage and restoration? At the absolute minimum, they should be trained and certified by the IICRC in water damage and restoration. This certification is only the beginning. The class alone is not enough to be a professional in flood and water restoration. It takes hundreds of hours of on-site experience. Let’s say you have a ground floor flood from a plumbing supply line. You have three options to clean up the water and dry your home.
1. Let it dry on its own.
This is not a good idea since there is a great potential for the subfloor to rot or to develop mold and mildew growth. Most likely the moisture has wicked up walls and will be in hidden places behind cabinets and in closets. The mold potential is great and mold removal services (mold remediation) are not covered by most insurance companies.
2. Tear out all that is wet.
Well, if you are not certified in flood and water removal services, how are you sure you removed all wet material? 3. Structural drying.
This is the process of removing any standing water or applying drying to structural materials affected by flood damage. Our advanced extraction tools can extract excess water out of your carpet and pad in one step. Once that is done, advanced dehumidifiers and air movers are used to create a drying environment.
Carpets and pads can usually be dried in less than two days; walls will be dried in three most of the time. Many times, the only non-salvageable damage from water is to baseboards, toe kicks on cabinets, and maybe some vent holes in some hard to reach areas.
If needed, we are also able to use specialty heat drying with the use of our TES drying system. If we can get to a water loss within a couple of days, we can minimize the damage to your home.
Structural drying, when done properly, will reduce the amount of time you are displaced from your home. If you wait too long and materials become damaged and need to be removed, reconstruction will oftentimes take many weeks to get done.
